Woman found dead after house fire east of Longmont

A woman was found dead inside of a home east of Longmont that was engulfed by fire early Friday morning, injuring and displacing others, police and firefighters say.

Weld County dispatchers received a call about the house fire behind a commercial building near Colo. 119 and Weld County Road 7 just before 3:40 a.m., according to a Mountain View Fire Rescue social media post.

Six people were inside of the home at the time, one of whom was taken to a hospital with burn injuries. It took firefighters several hours to fully extinguish the blaze.

Mountain View Fire Rescue spokesperson Rick Tillery said the woman’s body was found after the fire, while crews were searching the home.

The agency said the cause of the fire was still under investigation as of Friday morning, and the American Red Cross was providing aid to the home’s occupants. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office also said in a social media post that it is investigating the death.

The woman will be identified by the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
